What's in Frame

The Fürstenzug (Procession of Princes) is a large and striking mural on the outer wall of the Stallhof in Dresden. Crafted from thousands of Meissen porcelain tiles, it depicts a procession of the rulers of Saxony from the 12th to the early 20th century, showcasing the region's rich history and artistry.

Behind this impressive artwork lies the Stallhof (Stables Courtyard), a unique Renaissance courtyard within the larger Royal Palace complex. In the Middle Ages, this courtyard hosted knightly games and tournaments. Although it once housed the electoral stables, today the Stallhof, situated between the Johanneum and the "Langer Gang" (Long Arcade), is a vibrant open-air space used for cultural events, with the Fürstenzug serving as its stunning backdrop.

Journey Behind the Print (A Note from Amanda)

This was shot on August 8, 2007 while I was on my first river cruise down the River Elbe with my mom. I remember buying my first DSLR, a Canon XTi, in 2006 on our first family international trip to London and Paris. Since then, I remember buying photography books and trying to learn everything I could about photography to get ready for this trip. Each city we stopped to was amazing and a city or town you wouldn’t really think to go to, as they were all small towns or cities along the river. You’ll often find me not with the tour group, but off ducking into nooks and finding these peaceful places. I’m also the one who waits for everyone to leave to try to capture a shot with no people in, sometimes not possible. The beauty of tours, you don’t have to worry about finding the key tourist areas, and everything is just planned for you. It’s just up to you to embrace the beauty around you. You’ll also notice I love archways, doors, windows, and how they are the same yet different where ever you go.
