What's in Frame

Mount Vesuvius is a stratovolcano located on the Gulf of Naples in Campania, Italy. It is most famous for its eruption in AD 79 that destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The eruption buried these cities in ash and pumice, preserving them for centuries. Today, they are popular archaeological sites, offering a glimpse into Roman life.

Journey Behind the Print (A Note from Amanda)

This was shot on my college / university graduation trip, which I chose to do instead of walking the stage. This family trip of a tour around Italy was full of many memories. Having just come from Pompeii, and on our way to Sorrento to catch the ferry to Capri…it was a nice break from the tour bus to take in the shear size of Mount Vesuvius from afar. I can’t imagine what they saw as they it erupted in AD 79.
